When Dinosaurs Roamed the Land
Rob’s career began as a production artist for Video Dimensions, a video production studio in southern California. He created graphics for on-location shoots and post-production editing and designed product packaging for the studio’s clients. He also taught art classes for quiet, low-key, totally under control junior high students at a local private school. After several years with the studio, Rob worked as a graphic designer for the non-profit organization Focus on the Family, producing a wide variety of marketing materials in support of corporate, magazine and book publishing. He designed and produced direct mail programs that generated over $10 million in annual revenue. He also worked on broadcast and film projects and managed freelance production staff, designers and illustrators.

The Age of Enlightenment
As the digital revolution transformed the design industry, Rob, well positioned for the change, opened his own design firm, Robert Henslin Design in 1991. There was no looking back. Wait, strike that. There actually was some looking back – to the days when the “end of the day” meant just that and not “the beginning of the night shift.” So in 1996 after a few years of freelancing, Rob accepted an invitation from one of his clients, Oak Ridge Public Relations, to come onboard full-time as the agency’s in-house art director and graphic designer.

While at Oak Ridge, Rob established the graphic design department as a profit center within the agency. He created Public Elations, the agency’s multi-award winning newsletter of public relations strategy. The newsletter increased new business prospects by 600% and increased RFPs from target prospects by 34%. Rob also provided services for the agency’s clients, including Bay Networks, Maxspeed Corporation, Nanya Technology Corporation, Philips Components, Samsung Information Systems America, Solectron Corporation and Xilinx Inc.

The Roaring 30s
In 1999 after three years at Oak Ridge Public Relations, Rob returned to the helm at Robert Henslin Design. He created print advertising and trade show graphics for AT&T and Epson Electronics America Inc., direct mail campaigns for Cadence Design Systems, and product marketing collateral for Adobe, Network Peripherals and Raychem.

The Postmodern Era
Rob continues to ride the roller coaster that defines life in Silicon Valley, with a client list that includes Expresso Fitness Corporation, MultiGen-Paradigm, San José State University, Symmetricom and ZFoundry. He thrives on the challenge of making his clients successful against the backdrop of rapidly evolving technologies, ever-changing buyer preferences, and the constant need to do it better and faster than the other guy. Rob’s clients know their success is his number one goal.
